Temporary recycle site to open in Strathcona County

Note: We are no longer accepting garbage at this temporary site as of July 8, 2020.

Strathcona County is opening a temporary recycling site to help residents manage their short-term recycling, yard waste and waste during the COVID-19 pandemic. This site is intended for residents who lack the space to store these materials until the Broadview Enviroservice Station reopens. Residents are still being asked to limit out of home interactions, and so should hold onto their materials if possible.

Strathcona County helping residents feel safe, supported and connected during COVID-19

Strathcona County continues to provide free supports and resources to help residents cope as the COVID-19 pandemic affects all parts of the community. While Family and Community Services (FCS) walk-in supports are unavailable, resources and support are still available through their call line.

Concept designs for the new Skateboard Park in Ardrossan ready for feedback

The community is invited to provide feedback on three proposed concept designs for a new skateboard park in Ardrossan. From April 30 to May 7 an online survey, as well as a Sherwood Park News ad featuring the concept designs, will be available to gather feedback on the design options.

Residential street sweeping starts Monday

Street sweeping on main and arterial roads started this week, and County crews will start sweeping residential areas on Monday, April 27. It will take up to four weeks to clean all residential areas.

Family Resource Network funding

In January, Strathcona County Family and Community Services applied to Alberta Children’s Services to serve as the Family Resource Network hub for Strathcona County.

Strathcona County is successful in its application to become the hub and received a $900,000 provincial grant to support new Family Resource Network programming.

County suspends accounts receivable service charges and penalties

In consideration of the COVID-19 pandemic, Strathcona County is suspending all non-sufficient funds (NSF) service charges and penalties on general accounts receivable invoices, for the period of April 1 to July 31, 2020.

Extra yard waste collection switching to paper bags in Strathcona County

Strathcona County is turning over a new leaf this spring. Starting May 4, extra yard waste will be required to be in paper yard waste bags or reusable containers for collection. Yard waste in plastic bags will no longer be accepted.
