Arbor Day
Did you know that Arbor Day has been celebrated since 1872? In Strathcona County, Recreation, Parks and Culture has been celebrating Arbor Day for well over 25 years.
How do we celebrate?
On Friday, May 10 over 1,000 Grade 1 students from nearly every elementary school in Strathcona County will visit Broadmoor Lake Park to celebrate Arbor Day. Students will be given an Arbor Day seedling to commemorate their first year as a student. The seedlings have been made available province wide by Alberta Sustainable Development.
Many of the schools have planted trees in their school yards and students perform skits, plays, songs or poems to celebrate the importance of trees.
Also, each Grade 1 class has been invited to participate in the "Why I love trees" colouring contest. The winning class will receive a cheque for $1,000 to be used towards learning resources.
Arbor Day is proudly sponsored by Enbridge
