Aaron and his wife Lorna have been living in Strathcona County together for 15 years on an acreage just outside of Ardrossan. Their daughter Jessica has finished her business degree and has just recently finished her CPA designation.

Growing up on an acreage outside of Spruce Grove, Aaron enjoyed a rural upbringing spending his time at home and on the family homestead farm in the Smoky Lake area, that dates all the way back to 1896. Weekends were either playing hockey or spending time outdoors at the farm with the parents, aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. “I could not have asked for a more enjoyable way to learn “life lessons” as a kid, as it allowed me to become the person I am today” laments Nelson.

Aaron is involved in almost everything active and outdoors from golfing, biking, hiking and trail-riding to hockey, skiing and snowboarding – and all powersports one can think of. He has a special appreciation for traveling to experience different cultures and food, but Aaron notes how fast the world is changing; “Just being outside and leaving the screen time behind seems to be quite appealing to me now more than ever”.

Having a strong Business & Marketing background has allowed Aaron to move into various positions over the past two decades. He has worked in Regional and Business Development Management as a Senior Account Manager and VP of Sales and Marketing for a number of large automotive suppliers and manufactures. “The automotive industry has opened many doors for opportunities, education and networking in more directions than I could have ever imagined” says Nelson.

Giving back to the community is also important to Aaron. He previously coached Midget “A” hockey along with dedicating time to yearly events put on by the Stollery Children’s Hospital and noted how much of an eye-opener it is to the support our communities and families really require. He has a strong passion about supporting local business and their charity events through volunteering his time and experience in order to help meet some of their goals.

Councillor Nelson was elected to Ward 5 in October 2021 and looks forward to representing the interests of rural Strathcona County during his time on Council.
