The 2023 Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games Snowshoeing competition will be taking place at the Strathcona Wilderness Centre. On-site parking is not available for spectators; a shuttle bus is available on Saturday, February 25 and Sunday, February 26 to and from Uncas Elementary School for members of the public to attend.

Snowshoeing overview / rules
Snowshoe running is a winter sport practiced with snowshoes, which is governed by the World Snowshoe Federation (founded in 2010). Snowshoe running is part of the Special Olympics and Arctic Winter Games programs.
Comprehensive Special Olympics Canada snowshoeing rules are used for the Winter Games.
Snowshoeing will be divided into several events with varying distances:
- 100 metres
- 200 metres
- 400 metres
- 800 metres
- 1600 metres
- 5 kilometres
- 10 kilometres
During the races, snowshoers must abide by the official rules for considerations such as snowshoe length, starting position, impeding other participants and proper techniques for overtaking.
There will be over 30 Special Olympics athletes from 5 Alberta affiliates competing in the 2023 Winter Games.
