On collection day make sure the lid on your cart lid is completely closed as overfilled carts will not be collected.

Overfilled carts spill items onto the street, attract birds and animals and delay waste collection. It is the responsibility of the homeowner to make sure that waste materials are properly sorted and prepared for collection in accordance with Bylaw 39-2014. (314.7 KB)

Extra waste can be taken to a regional transfer station or landfill or to the Broadview Enviroservice Station. Fees apply.

Broadview Enviroservice Station fees for extra waste:

  • $5 per small item (such as garbage bag, lawn chairs, stools, kid's small pool, kitchen sink etc.)
  • $15 per large non-reusable furniture item (such as couches, etc.)
  • $18 per mattress or boxspring
  • $60 per 1/2 tonne truck load

If you frequently have extra waste, call Utilities at 780-449-5514 to get another cart (fees apply).

Waste summer audits

Each summer, Utilities conducts waste audits as a means to improve and reduce waste going to the landfill.

You may notice Utilities staff examining waste, organics and recycling in your neighbourhood. Staff will use stickers to provide residents with feedback on their efforts. These stickers will help you correctly sort waste and reduce contamination. Learn more about what to do if your waste is stickered and not collected.

Residents who are doing a great job may even receive a gold star sticker on their carts in recognition of their efforts.

Contamination is costly

Contamination increases processing costs and user fees and decreases diversion rates. Put waste in its proper place every time. Recycling, organics or waste carts that are improperly packaged may not be collected. It will be up to the resident to repackage them and put them out for the next collection date.
