Strathcona County hosts an annual poster contest promoting agriculture in the County. 

The contest encourages students to think about the importance of agriculture in their lives, regardless of where they live. 

This year's contest will run from October 23 to November 17, 2023.

2023 theme: Let's grow agriculture together!

Many jobs involve agriculture! Here are a few:

• Farmers care for livestock and grow crops. 
• Veterinarians help keep animals healthy. 
• Truck drivers move grains, produce, livestock and all the supplies that farmers use. 
• Scientists find new and better ways to help farmers grow plenty of nutritious food. 
• Technology specialists build computer programs, apps, robots and machinery which can make farming more efficient. 
• Chefs and bakers take all the amazing things grown on farms and prepare them for people to eat.

Imagine you have a job in agriculture and draw a picture of what that looks like. Let’s grow agriculture together!

 

Contest rules

Strathcona County’s Poster Contest is open to all students in Strathcona County and Fort Saskatchewan who are in grades 3, 4 and 5 at the time of contest entry, and is governed by Canadian and Alberta Law.  This contest is awarding the following prize(s): 

1. Three first place prizes (one per grade); $100 

2. Three second place prizes (one per grade); $75 

3. Three third place prizes (one per grade); $50  

Chances of winning are dependent on number of entries received. Contest entries will be judged by Strathcona County, Planning and Development Services Selection Committee based on creative representation of the theme “Let's grow agriculture together!", and visual appeal. To claim their prize, a parent or legal guardian of the winner must sign a Release, certify compliance with the Official Contest Rules, and provide the County with written consent for the County to display and reproduce the contest submission, and share the winner’s image, name, and grade for promotional and exhibition purposes in physical and/or electronic format for a period of 5 years. No purchase is necessary.

Entry guidelines

Artwork requirements:  

• Artwork must be on a 11” x 17” sheet of paper or poster board 
• Completed in pencil crayons, markers or paints (full colour) 
• Must be original work of student who is submitting

Entry requirements:

• Print and fully complete the entry form and agree to the terms and conditions of the Official Rules and Regulations
• Drop off in-person
  • Planning and Development Services front counter, Strathcona County Hall building located at 2001 Sherwood Drive, Sherwood Park. 
    • Office hours: 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Write student’s name, grade, school and phone number on the back of the poster
  • Include a completed  Entry form (887.7 KB)
• Email it to us
  • Scan or photograph artwork and submit via email to agricultureandenvironment@strathcona.ca
  • Be sure to include the completed entry form
  • Please include the subject line: Agricultural Poster Contest, [Name], [Grade], and [School]
