In 2023, improvements were made to the Highway 21 and Township Road 534 intersection to support projected increases in traffic from residential developments in the area.

This project was completed as part of the overall North of Yellowhead Upgrades project.  It was led by Strathcona County and funded by the Cambrian Crossing developers.

Upgrades include:

  • Road reconstruction
  • Grading
  • Paving
  • Improved left and right turn lanes
  • New traffic signals
  • Lighting

Traffic signals were added to the intersection to support subdivision requirements for Cambrian Crossing, a new residential development area north of Highway 16 and west of Highway 21.

The project will be complete by summer of 2024, with the signals operational by February.

Future plans for this intersection

When warranted by traffic volumes, an interchange will eventually be constructed at this location. These discussions and negotiations between the County and the Alberta government have been ongoing since 2012-13, as part of the approval of the initial North of Yellowhead Area Concept Plan, which includes development of the Bremner area.
