Snow route parking ban declared

Winter storm cleanup: Strathcona County works to keep people moving safely on urban and rural roads

A snow route parking ban will go into effect on Monday, November 9 at 12 noon on all collector roads in Sherwood Park.

In response to approximately 20 centimetres of snow since Saturday morning, Strathcona County crews have been working to clear snow on urban and rural roads. Additional resources have been called in to help crews with the cleanup.

All rural roads and Sherwood Park collector roads are expected to be cleared by Friday, pending further weather conditions.

Parking ban details

The parking ban applies to collector roads marked with permanent snow route signs. This does not include local residential streets in Sherwood Park. Residents are asked to remove their vehicles from collector roads to allow for safe and efficient snow removal.

Parking is permitted after the snow has been removed. Vehicles parked on collector roads during the parking ban will be towed, and the owner issued a $250 ticket.

Drive for icy conditions

Crews continue to address icy conditions. Drivers are reminded to take caution and drive for winter conditions. Even when ice control methods are applied, temperature and wind can affect road conditions.

Always practice winter driving strategies such as:

  • Slow down – the posted speed limit is for ideal conditions
  • Leave extra space – give yourself extra space between the vehicle in front of you
  • Give yourself time – your daily commute could take twice as long to drive safely in winter conditions
