Candidate nominations accepted starting January 1

2021 Municipal Election

On October 18, 2021, Strathcona County will hold a municipal election for Mayor and eight Ward Councillors for the 2021-2025 Council term.

The local municipal Council is the order of government closest to the people. Those interested in running for Mayor or Councillor for Strathcona County can find information about becoming a candidate at strathcona.ca/election.

Recent changes to the Local Authorities Election Act see the candidate nomination period expanded for Alberta municipal elections, to now align with the beginning of the campaign period that starts January 1.

For the Strathcona County 2021 Municipal Election, nominations must be filed with the Election Office at the Strathcona County Community Centre. Filing of the nomination form may be done by appointment, mail, or courier.

A candidate can file their nomination form in person starting January 4, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. (the first business day of the new year) and ending at the close of Nomination Day on September 20, 2021 at 12 noon. Due to COVID-19, the Election Office is not openly accessible to the public. Prospective candidates can contact the Election Office by phone at 780-400-3800, or email election@strathcona.ca to schedule an appointment.

Candidates can also file their nomination form by mail or through courier starting January 1, 2021 and ending at the close of Nomination Day. The Election Office is located at 3rd Floor North Wing, Community Centre, 401 Festival Lane, Sherwood Park, AB. The mailing address is 2001 Sherwood Drive, Sherwood Park, AB, T8A 3W7.

It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure their information is submitted to the Election Office by the deadline.
