Concept designs for the new Skateboard Park in Ardrossan ready for feedback

The community is invited to provide feedback on three proposed concept designs for a new skateboard park in Ardrossan. From April 30 to May 7 an online survey, as well as a Sherwood Park News ad featuring the concept designs, will be available to gather feedback on the design options.

A workshop was originally planned to gather this feedback, however as part of the County’s response to COVID-19, this has been moved to an online survey, available at strathcona.ca/ardrossanskatepark. For those who do not wish to fill the survey out online, a newspaper ad featuring the three concept designs will invite residents to call 780-467-2211 to indicate which design option is preferred. The tally will be added to the online response feedback.

An initial workshop, held in January, discussed what type of features riders would like to see in this new skatepark. Feedback collected from the first design workshop and online survey shows the overall design preference of the park is leaning toward a hybrid park, which would combine street elements with a good flow and transition style.

The design of neighbouring skateboard parks at Millennium Place and in Fort Saskatchewan were also taken into consideration, as not to duplicate the same features that riders in the area can already access.

Construction on this skateboard park will begin in Summer 2020.
