County collaborating with regional partners to plan virtual Canada Day celebration

As the community continues to weather through the COVID-19 pandemic, it is equally important to continue to celebrate the positive moments. While gathering limitations remain; the community’s creativity, pride and spirit remain limitless.

Strathcona County is excited to announce Canada Day celebrations will continue; virtually. The County has been working hard with municipalities around the Edmonton Metropolitan Region to create a partnered Canada Day celebration.

The City of Beaumont, Town of Devon, City of Fort Saskatchewan, City of Leduc, City of Spruce Grove, City of St. Albert, Town of Stony Plain and Strathcona County have pulled together resources and minds to bring the Canada Day Festival to you!

Canada Day is traditionally one of the largest celebrations of the year, and the virtual celebrations will honour the country we call home, while ensuring everyone’s safety. Planned activities include a free virtual concert series, online activities and crafts and a downloadable brochure featuring a spotlight on the County and our regional partners.

As part of the celebrations, residents are invited to submit a short video, now until June 11, to be a part of Strathcona County's Virtual Canada Day celebration. People are encouraged to share how they will be celebrating Canada Day this year while practicing physical distancing. The short video (maximum 30 seconds) can feature residents and their family or friends dressed up in red and white celebrating our country. Clips should be high energy and show celebratory activities, such as jumping in the air, riding bikes, cooking s'mores in the backyard or singing O'Canada. Videos submitted may be used to create a Strathcona County Canada Day video to be shared on social media July 1.
