Recreation and Culture Strategy community check-in, have your say!
May 1, 2023
Strathcona County is inviting households and youth in Grades 7-12 to share their feedback to help plan for the next four years of recreation and culture opportunities in the community, by completing an online survey between May 1 to 22.
Since the strategy was created in 2019, Strathcona County has:
- Enhanced welcoming spaces and places for all residents to enjoy, such as free and accessible winter opportunities at The Broadmoor and hosted the 2023 Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games
- Built new infrastructure including a skateboard park in Ardrossan and new spray decks in Sherwood Park’s McPherson and Summerton Parks
- Facilitated active and creative opportunities for seniors to reconnect with friends and make new friends
- Improved accessibility at a variety of facilities, including the addition of universal changerooms at the Kinsmen Leisure Centre, the pool pod at the Emerald Hills Leisure Centre and the accessible box office at Festival Place
- Maintained existing assets such as revitalizing Millennium Place
Those completing the household and youth survey can enter to win one of 20 $50 Recreation, Parks and Culture gift cards. Ten of the gift cards are available to be won by household survey participants, and ten by youth survey participants.
Representatives from community, sport and culture groups who deliver recreation and culture opportunities in Strathcona County have also been invited to share their feedback.
Strathcona County thanks everyone in advance for sharing their views and feedback. The feedback will be reviewed by administration, alongside data and existing policies and frameworks, to develop the next phase of the Recreation and Culture Strategy implementation plan. Overall themes will be presented to Council this fall.
The Recreation and Culture Strategy focuses on five key areas: community needs, inclusion, building capacity, environmental stewardship and fiscal responsibility. These areas of focus inform the priorities in the implementation plan.
