Evacuation order lifted in Strathcona County

As of 1 p.m. today, the County has lifted the evacuation order for everyone in the area between south of Township Road 540 and north of Township Road 534; and east of Range Road 221 and west of Range Road 215. This includes Pleasant View Estates and Newton Estates. While it is currently safe to return home, please remain vigilant. If you see a fire, call 9-1-1 immediately.

People who were affected by the evacuations may direct questions to the reception centre at 780-464-4044. The reception centre will now close for walk-in traffic, but phone lines remain open until 6 p.m. this evening. Fire crews remain on scene in this area, as well as at the fire near Hwy 21.

At this time, the County can confirm there is no loss of life or injuries from either of the fires in the County. No homes have been lost. Some damages have been reported at one business, east of Hwy 21. Damage includes one outbuilding and vehicles and trailers at the back of the property.

Both fires remain under investigation.

The fire ban remains in place, please remain vigilant. If you see a fire, call 9-1-1 immediately.

Now is the time to check or make an emergency preparedness kit. Make sure you have enough to be self-sufficient for up to 72 hours - whether you have to evacuate or shelter in place.
