Dancing into the future with new public art unveiling

Strathcona County is thrilled to announce the unveiling of “Dancing into the Future,” a captivating addition to the Strathcona County Public Art Collection. Created by Indigenous artist Eugene Alexis of the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, this piece features vibrant dancing colours and celebrates Indigenous culture and peoples.

“Dancing into the Future” is a stunning visual representation of positive relationships and unity, symbolizing the collective journey towards reconciliation. Originally rendered as a large acrylic on canvas painting, this remarkable artwork has been digitally reproduced on a larger scale using vinyl. (Please note that Alexis may personally adorn this vinyl reproduction with hand-painted strokes, schedule permitting).

The chosen location for this monumental piece is the prominent exterior wall of the Sherwood Park Arena (south side of the building near the traffic turnout). This high-traffic area was selected to maximize its impact on the lives of our community’s residents, making art more accessible to all.

Community members are invited to join in the celebration of the unveiling of “Dancing into the Future” on:

Date: Friday, September 29, 2023

Time: 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (formal program starts at 2:30 p.m.)

Refreshments will be provided, and we look forward to coming together as a community to admire the artwork and commemorate its significance.
